MEDIA RELEASE:
We have just been advised of a tragedy involving a member of our school community. Today we received word that Sally Pfund, a physical education teacher and coach for Merrill High School is currently at St. Joe’s Hospital in Marshfield. During surgery for an aneurism, she suffered a massive stroke. Her family is expecting her to pass today and will be working with organ donation.
Ms. Pfund joined the Merrill High School staff in 1997 as a physical education teacher. She has also served as coach for girls’ basketball and track, senior class advisor and most recently as Head Volleyball Coach. Out of respect to Coach Pfund, tonight’s volleyball game has been cancelled.
Students, staff and parents were informed of this situation earlier today and counselors are being made available in the building to help those of you who need extra support in dealing with this situation. Varsity volleyball players and their parents as well as High School Principal, Shannon Murray are now with the family in Marshfield. Sally was a beloved teacher and coach. She will be remembered as a kind and caring mentor to the scores of students she taught and coached over the years. As soon as we know the family's wishes regarding Ms. Pfund, we will share that information with you. |
